The
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is
the leading wildlife charity in the counties of Hampshire
and the Isle of Wight. It is responsible for over 50
nature reserves representing more than 6000 acres of
valuable wildlife habitat. The Trust currently manages
two purpose built study centres – at Swanwick, near
Fareham and at Blashford Lakes, near Ringwood. A third
centre, the Testwood Study Centre, is due to open in
late 2002 at Testwood Lakes, near Totton. At each site,
a wide range of activities are available, tailored to
the needs of each party and the National Curriculum.
Hampshire
and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has an education team
comprising Education Wardens, based at each of our Study
Centres, and an Education Officer, based at the Trust
office, to provide outreach activities, advice and training.
This team is augmented by other Trust staff experienced
in community conservation work. With this breadth of
knowledge and experience, we can provide a comprehensive
service to schools throughout the county. Activities
for primary aged children include pond dipping, simple
map making and math trails. We also provide areas of
study for secondary aged children, pre-school, KS1/2,
KS 3/4, 16 + and NSG. Activities focus mainly on the
science and geography curriculum requirements but there
are a number of cross - curricular themes that may be
developed. The Education Wardens will be pleased to
discuss your curricular needs and help plan your school
visit.
