Background:
Linkenholt
is a 2000 acre estate set in most beautiful countryside
between Andover, Hungerford and Newbury, just north
of Upton on the B3048. It is very isolated and is surrounded
by similar estates with quite large wooded areas as
well as open spaces with breathtaking views. From March
to September we accept groups ranging from 50 strong,
and occasionally more, to very small groups of 6 or
less who operate independently and do their own thing.
In general we provide a base camp with a large marquee
and tables and chairs for 50, together with cooking,
washing and loo facilities for that number. We do not
provide sleeping tents or personal crockery or cutlery.
We rely on the organisation making the booking to organise
and be responsible for their own activities, but can
assist by advising what is suitable and providing resources
for groups to use such as maps, nature trails etc. The
area is ideal for a wide range of users, from Duke of
Edinburgh Award groups overnighting, to major week long
camps, to day visits by schools.
The
activities are heavily subsidised by a charitable trust
(The Herbert and Peter Blagrave Trust) so costs are
minimal and rarely exceed £1.50 per person per
night, although some of the resources used, such as
maps, may cost a little extra. Day visits are less and
we have the ability to reduce our charges if it is clear
that there may be a problem for some groups.
