Regency Pleasure Gardens
Take
the time to discover the wonderful pleasure gardens
of the 19th century botanist and traveller, Sir George
Staunton. Complete with mysterious follies, an ornamental
farm, amazing glasshouses and more than 1,000 acres
of beautiful landscaped countryside, the Park is a living
testimony to his dreams.
The
gardens were inspired by Staunton's extensive travels
in the Far East, and today you can still enjoy the menagerie
of exotic animals and unusual plants from all four corners
of the globe, whatever the weather.
Ornamental
Farm
Enjoy
the opportunity to get close to an amazing variety of
friendly animals. Children can enjoy following the Black
Cat Trail or let off steam in the play area. Ask at
the Visitor Centre for feed for the many animals you'll
meet on your journey around the park.
Fabulous
Glasshouses
Discover
orchids , pineapple, Jurassic plants, Papyrus, rice
plants, Amazon Lily (summer only) and much more, in
the largest glasshouses on the South Coast. Originally
designed and built in the Regency era, the glasshouses
have been completely restored.
Follies
You
can enjoy a wealth of Regency and Victorian architecture
from Staunton's era at Staunton Country Park. From the
beauty of the traditional Gothic library, the formal
splendour of the walled garden to the unusual Shell
House, there is plenty to explore in the historic estate.
