Welcome to our website directory
If
you are a farmer or landowner interested in finding out about this
project please read the introduction.
If
you are interested in becoming involved and hosting visits for children
or going into schools as a speaker there are many routes for you to
take:
- Register
with Farms for Schools, a network of farms that are open to the
public but also host school visits. FFS offers help and advice,
particularly with health and safety issues. It produces a county
based directory and provides members with a biannual newsletter,
keeping members up to date with current issues. It is currently
developing an assurance or inspection scheme.
The Farms for Schools web site is www.farmsforschools.org.uk
- Contact
your FACE Regional Education Coordinator ( REC ), Geraldine Pullen.
Her role is to promote food and farming and make contacts between
schools and farms. She may have lists of schools which are undertaking
environmental studies who need appropriate visits. She also visits
schools directly, giving talks to children and promoting farm
visits. Visit
the FACE in the directory
for more information. Contact Geraldine Pullen - 01273 857692
or e-mail
her.
- Contact
The Country Trust. This charity uses farms, forests, moors, lakes
and estates to host visits for schools from towns and cities.
The trust deals with administration and has its own field officers
who help to plan and conduct the visit. Contact Rodney Stanford
- 01728 604818.
- Contact
the Womens Farming Union ( WFU ). They
do not have an active branch in Hampshire, however they do train
farmers and their wives for their speaker’s panel, Farming in
the Classroom. This training identifies the needs of the National
Curriculum and covers basic presentation skills which allows you,
the expert to put your knowledge across effectively to children
in the classroom. The WFU receives requests from schools and matches
their members to those requests. Contact
the WFU – 024 76693171 or e-mail
them.
